Episode 13: Power with our Black Dollar
Continueing HERstory Month with my next guest, Cassandra Porter and I have gotten so close over the years as we've shared giggles, vented to each other, got teary-eyed (at least I did), conduct trainings together but most of all, we have impactful and informative conversations! This one we just happened to capture on a podcast!
Check out this conversation with my fellow HBCU and equity advocate as we discuss Power with our Black Dollar and what "buying black" look like.
As of 2022, black spending power was a record-breaking 1.6 TRILLION dollars! WE CAN MAKE AN IMPACT, we just have to be intentional and sacrifice things! We talked about mainstream vs. local and discussed the symbol of success and wealth.

Episode 14: ChickChat: Your story becoming HERstory!
Courtney Shields was so impactful that I had her back for International HEREstory Month! We chatted about how to make that "dash" in our homecoming celebration count. Listen to how the impact is happening during the dash and that the dash is our individual story. We also talked about the lack of self-confidence, and intentionality and how we should never minimize our worth while comparing ourselves.
After the podcast, I asked her how would she define a classy woman. Courtney's reply is poised and approachable. That should show you how she is! :-)

Episode 15: Word on the street
As we close out March (HERstory month), I thought it would be cool to do this episode with the one that has seen my stuggle to tell MY STORY, my offspring. This episode is different, and unique yet so much fun and gave me joy! My daughter, Kalyn, and I are chatting about current events hence, "Word on the street". I knew more than I let on, but I just went with it for the sake of this conversation! :-) I love this mother/daughter dialog and I hope you enjoy our conversation. We will have more of these, so please share your thoughts on the "Word on the street" and if you have a WORD, let us know.

Episode 16: Giving Words Power
When I tell you that there were many obstacles in doing this episode, I almost felt like giving up! But something inside me kept pushing to have this "uncomfortable", intense, and controversial conversation!!! I am so glad I did because it will open up many conversation platforms!
Not only did I have my repeat guest, Courtney Shields to chat with me about Giving Words Power, but we invited Michelle Torbor to chime in our this conversation. We discussed some powerful, yet negative and derogatory words that we say to each out. The "N" word, the "B" word, and others. Check out how boundaries can be healthy, relationships and context can play a part, and learn the difference between the two.
Learn about "leading with love"!!
Maybe we can get some men to chime in on this conversation and share from their point of view! Are there more words we can add? Please share and let me know your thoughts!

Episode 17: Privileged vs. Entitled
This topic hit home for me, felt some kind of way about it and felt that we could have a good conversation was needed. What best person to have it with than my equity guru on the topic is Privileged vs. Entitled?! What does it mean? What's the difference and what's the impact?
Some of us limit being Privileged and/or Entitled to just black and white, but it's so much more than that! Check out this conversation and hear my "ah ha moment" during our equity training session, the definition of the two, the 5 types of privilege, and how it can be viewed as a both | and.

Episode 18: Motherhood Blessings
The one time of the year, the world celebrates us and all that we do! I wanted to give a shout-out to all of the women, who HAVE a mother, ARE a mother, or MOTHERLY to someone and this conversation celebrates you!
I extended the conversation to all of my previous guests, but due to busy schedules and conflicts, most couldn't join us, but my fellow equity, HBCU advocate, among many other things, sister Cassandra Porter, had a delightful discussion that I hope you enjoy and can relate to.
Cassandra shared that we are parenting through a time we didn't live through! Things are different for us today!
Listen to this episode to see what we mean when we say these words: integrity, principle, foundation, and sandwich generation!!! :-)
What were your Pearls of wisdom given or received??? Please share!

Episode 19: Reelview Podcast -Queen Charlotte
So much chatter about this movie and I wanted to have a conversation about it since that's what we do at the Launching Pad! I put the ask out there and some of my Skegee family answered! Terrance Scott, Jr (aka T. Scott), Dana Kiel, Tonge English, and I engaged in a great and enlightening conversation. I love it and found it interesting that we got a male perspective on this on well! :-)
We discussed if the character, Queen Charlotte, was based on a real person. We discussed love, diversity, friendship, and that awesome soundtrack! Check the conversation out to see why we mention 'masking" things, being true, authentic and genuine, and conflict avoidance and how/why they came up.
We ALL agreed that Shonda Rhimes has done it again! Strategically and intentially well written that touched on MANY topics!
Check out the show, then listen to the podcast OR listen to the podcast then check out the show. Either way, do both and share YOUR THOUGHTS!!! LOL

Season 2 Episode 2: Intro to "Let's Talk Love Language" series!
People throw the word "LOVE" around but how well do we understand the action portion?! In this episode, we discuss love languages, the phenomenon that was introduced to us by Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages.
I reached out to my resident therapist, Courtney Shields to discuss all 5 languages over the next few episodes and I am excited to see how this all unfolds. She gives us a high-level overview and we will drive into it deeper in the next few weeks. Based on our discussion, I have a feeling that I will receive some GREAT tips and I hope you will do!
The 5 Love Languages are words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. They can be associated with the following types: romantic, family, friendship, and workplace.
The 3 steps to strengthening your relationship:
learn your love language
exchange your results
strengthen your relationship
I. CAN'T. WAIT to tie this all together and learn more about love! Listen to this podcast to where Courtney is going to take us on this journey AND to hear my love language!

Season 2 Episode 3: The Love Language series - Words of Affirmation!
Last episode we had our intro to "Let's Talk Love Language" series and gave a high-level overview of the 5 languages: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch. In This episode, we dive right into the first language of Words of Affirmation!
You should listen to learn that there are so many elements to this language. Courtney Shields, our guest and licensed therapist tells us that to affirm is not to criticize. It is NOT a negative statement. She provides some great examples and we engage in enlightening conversation.
Remember, these languages are not limited to just romantic, but family, friendship, and workplace as well!!!
CHALLENGE: Courtney challenges you to affirm 3 people daily. Listen to the podcast to hear how that challenge came to be.
This series definitely has you evaluating things!

Season 2 Episode 8: The Love Language series - Wrap-up / Intro
In this podcast, we wrap up all 5 love languages and introduce the apology languages. We learned that the barriers to love languages are
1) We love people with the language that WE want instead of THEIR love language.
2) Once the language is identified, trying to get to the same page can be a lot.
Just to recap:
1. Words of Affirmation - words are powerful
2. Acts of Service - doing the things for a person that you wouldn't do.
3. Receiving Gifts - a visual symbol or representation that you were thinking of for them.
4. Quality Time - undivided attention; doing something/activity that they enjoy.
5. Physical Touch - really foundation and non-verbal.
Listen to the podcast as we dive deeper into the wrap-up of the languages.
Did you know that they are Apology languages??? Well, neither did I . Listen to us as we introduce them and will dive deeper later.
Email me at pamela@pamelabean.net and let me know your response, thoughts on the languages discussed thus far and, what your love language is. I'd love to hear from you.
